2017 Athens Marathon: How to properly prepare yourself to avoid muscle injuries

The event for the 35th Athens Classic Marathon is coming soon! On Sunday 12 November 2017, thousands of runners from all over the world will be present at the starting point, like every year, full of energy, enthusiasm, passion and eagerness for another long-distance and difficult route!

Starting from Marathonos Avenue up to the Panathenaic Stadium (Kalimarmaro), miles and roads with hills are not going to make it easy for us. Thus, we need to properly prepare our body.

Whether we intend to run only for a few miles or more (let alone the entire route – 42.195 km) we should take proper precautions before, during and after the end of the race. Detailed information regarding this subject is available on the official website of Athens Marathon.

Apart from the day before the race and during the event though, the previous physical preparation of the athlete is of high importance; not only do we need to build a physical endurance for the Marathon but also and mainly to avoid muscle injuries, a danger that is intensified because of the uphill trail in many spots of the route.

In the Physioathens Modern Physiotherapy Centre, we provide integrated preparation for optimal physical training and fitness in order to avoid muscle injuries – in view of participating in the Classic Marathon – through the specialized sports massage.
